Key driver of the GCC economy

The petrochemical industry in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) plays a pivotal role in driving economic growth and leading the global energy transition through innovation and sustainable solutions. As a cornerstone of the GCC economy, this industry not only fuels industrial development but also provides essential materials and products that support diverse sectors worldwide. Through continuous innovation, GCC petrochemical companies are at the forefront of advancing technologies that promote energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, and support the transition to a circular economy.

Socio-Economic Impact

The GCC chemical industry remains a vital contributor to the regional economy, accounting for 3.5% of GCC GDP in 2024. While the sector’s share of GDP has moderated in line with broader economic diversification efforts across the GCC, it continues to play an important role in supporting industrial activity and value creation across member economies. Beyond its economic contribution, the industry remains a key driver of local employment. In 2024, GPCA members achieved a nationalization rate of 75.5%, underscoring the sector’s continued commitment to developing local talent, strengthening workforce participation, and supporting inclusive economic growth across the region.
