Organized in collaboration with Quantis, the webinar will discuss how chemical producers can navigate rising sustainability expectations in a balanced and credible manner

As global sustainability expectations continue to evolve, companies across the globe are facing increasing pressure to ensure that their environmental claims are accurate, substantiated and communicated responsibly. As demand for environmental credibility increases, regulators, customers, investors, and civil society are placing greater scrutiny on sustainability communications more closely than ever before. In this environment, the ability to develop accurate and substantiated green claims has become a strategic imperative that directly influences brand trust and long‑term competitiveness.

To support chemical producers in navigating this evolving landscape, the Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association (GPCA), in collaboration with Quantis, will host a dedicated webinar titled “Build your green claims right: A practical webinar for chemical professionals” on 9 June at 11:00 – 12:00 GST. The session will provide practical insights into how chemical producers can navigate sustainability expectations in a balanced and credible manner, particularly within complex B2B and export-oriented value chains.

Why this topic matters now

Across global markets, the regulatory environment governing environmental claims is tightening. From the EU’s Green Claims Directive and broader sustainability disclosure and carbon-related regulatory developments, such as the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), to emerging national guidelines on sustainability marketing, companies are expected to demonstrate that their claims are specific, measurable, and backed by robust evidence. At the same time, customers, particularly in downstream manufacturing sectors, are demanding clearer information on product footprints, low-carbon alternatives, and the credibility of sustainability commitments.

For the chemical industry, which plays a key role in enabling low carbon solutions while also being a hard‑to‑abate sector, this creates a dual challenge. Producers must communicate progress transparently while balancing the risks of overstating achievements, underrepresenting progress, or creating potential greenwashing concerns.

What participants will learn

This session will offer a structured, hands-on exploration of how to build environmental claims that stand up to regulatory, scientific, and stakeholder scrutiny. Key learning objectives include:

  • Understand the evolving regulatory landscape for environmental claims and implications for the chemical sector
  • Recognize the risks of greenwashing and greenhushing on reputation, trust, and compliance
  • Apply the key principles of credible environmental claims (specific, measurable, relevant, clear, accessible)
  • Leverage robust data and standards (e.g. LCA, certifications) to substantiate claims
  • Develop clear, compliant, and value-driven sustainability communications for B2B audiences

The webinar will be hosted by Noora Mukhtar, Senior Research Specialist, GPCA, and feature a panel of seasoned sustainability and communication specialists from Quantis: Philipp Meister, Managing Director & Global Chemicals Lead; Alice Joubay, Principal Strategist, Chemicals & Pharma Sector Lead – Switzerland, Middle East and Asia; and Janina Morgen Cros, Communications & Engagement Specialist.
