OQ Gas Networks (OQGN) is progressing with the feasibility study of its Northern Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) ecosystem, a key initiative supporting Oman’s broader net-zero strategy.
The Northern hub is one of three planned CCUS ecosystems designed to capture and transport carbon emissions from major industrial clusters. Focused on the Sohar Industrial Area and surrounding regions, the project aims to establish an integrated network that captures CO₂ from emission sources and transports it via dedicated pipelines to storage or utilizsation sites.
OQGN is currently in advanced stages of the feasibility study, with expectations to determine the project’s commercial viability and next steps by the end of the year. The initiative is supported by growing market interest and aligns with national efforts to reduce industrial emissions while enabling long-term net-zero ambitions.
Alongside the Northern hub, OQGN has outlined Central and Southern CCUS ecosystems targeting key industrial zones including Duqm and Salalah. While these projects remain under development, the company is prioritizing the Northern ecosystem due to clearer demand and readiness.
As part of Oman’s evolving carbon management framework, OQGN has also been designated as the national champion for CO₂ transportation and green hydrogen infrastructure, reinforcing its strategic role in the country’s energy transition.
