Qatar is set to become the world’s largest exporter of urea, as QatarEnergy accelerates major expansions across its fertilizer, LNG and helium sectors, announced H.E. Saad bin Sherida Al‑Kaabi, Minister of State for Energy Affairs, and CEO, QatarEnergy, at the opening of the LNG2026 conference in Doha.
H.E. Al-Kaabi highlighted that QatarEnergy is developing a new world‑scale urea fertilizer complex that will boost production capacity by more than 110%, firmly positioning Qatar as the global leader in fertilizer exports and enhancing its contribution to international food security.
Building on this momentum, H.E. Al-Kaabi confirmed that QatarEnergy is also on track to become the largest exporter of LNG worldwide. Ongoing mega‑projects will raise Qatar’s LNG production capacity from 77 million tons per annum to 160 million tons, including 142 million tons from the North Field, accounting for approximately 40% of new global LNG supply over the next decade.
H.E. Al-Kaabi also noted significant expansion in petrochemicals, with production capacity projected to grow by 235%, supplying global markets with a wider range of high‑value products.
In the renewable energy space, QatarEnergy has made “significant progress” in developing solar energy projects, with total generation capacity expected to surpass 5,000 MW by 2030, including 4,000 MW within Qatar, covering nearly 30% of the national grid’s electricity needs.
