GPCA is proud to announce the launch of ALMANARH, a new periodic process safety newsletter developed by the Gulf Process Safety Network (GPSN) to strengthen knowledge-sharing and elevate process safety standards across the regional chemical and petrochemical industry.

As part of GPSN’s mission to promote effective networking, thought leadership, and advocacy in process safety, ALMANARH serves as a platform dedicated to transforming real incidents into valuable insights.

Each edition highlights a high‑value process safety event contributed by a GPCA member company, capturing what happened, why it happened, the consequences, and, most importantly, the key lessons learned.

Process safety incidents hold powerful lessons. By sharing them transparently and systematically, organizations can better anticipate risks, strengthen hazard awareness, and prevent recurrence. ALMANARH supports this mission by:

  • Encouraging transparent reporting and driving structured sharing of process safety events, lessons learned, and good practices
  • Supporting proactive hazard identification, risk awareness, and prevention by learning from actual events experienced by peers
  • Enabling effective learning through regionally relevant case studies that reflect regional operating environments, culture and challenges

The name ALMANARH is inspired by the Arabic word المنارة, meaning “lighthouse”, a symbol of guidance, vigilance, and safe passage.

Historically, lighthouses protected fishermen and pearl divers navigating the Arabian Gulf. Similarly, ALMANARH aspires to guide today’s operators through complex operational challenges, illuminating potential hazards before they become incidents.

By launching ALMANARH, GPCA and GPSN reaffirm their commitment to fostering a culture of transparency, continuous learning, and collaborative improvement. This publication represents a collective industry effort to strengthen process safety and protect people, assets, and the environment.
