The future of freight
In a special interview with GPCA Insight, Tony Yang, VP, Strategy, TruKKer Group, the company which won first prize in the Excellence in Sustainability category at the GPCA Supply Chain Excellence Awards, shares insights into their groundbreaking work in sustainable logistics, and what winning the Award means to them
What does it mean to you to have won a GPCA Supply Chain Excellence Award?
This award is more than industry recognition. It’s a milestone in TruKKer’s mission to transform logistics in the MENA region. From being the runner-up in 2024 to winner in 2025, our journey reflects the power of consistency, technology, and grit. We are proud that our work, from digital lane optimization and backhaul planning to driver-centric payment automation and electric trucks initiatives, has been acknowledged by the region’s most credible platform. It validates our belief that smarter freight solutions don’t just improve bottom lines; they build stronger, greener, and more resilient economies.
What does supply chain innovation and excellence mean in today’s world?
In today’s hyper-connected world, supply chain excellence is no longer about predictability alone; it’s also about intelligence, agility, and impact. At TruKKer, we innovate to bring predictive routing, integrate real-time visibility into our operations, and use data to eliminate empty miles and emissions. We’re not just about building tech platforms; it’s also about ensuring that our solutions are deeply aligned with government policies and regulatory shifts like KSA’s Vision 2030 infrastructure roadmap or ensuring compliance with the UAE’s evolving freight regulations. Excellence, to us, is about building freight systems that are resilient, digital-first, and built for regional scale.
What is your message to the next generation of talent and future Award participants?
Supply chain is no longer about being the backstage crew; it is the centre stage. To those entering the field, bring your digital instincts but also your local insight. Learn the real-world frictions that slow things down: capacity mismatches, infrastructure gaps, delayed payments, informal fleet behaviors, and disconnected cross-border processes. At TruKKer, these are exactly the bottlenecks we solve every day.
Whether it’s reducing empty miles through smart backhaul planning, enabling real-time tracking across long-haul corridors, or digitizing payment flows for fleet owners, we’re reimagining freight from the ground up. We need more minds who think this way. People who can connect logistics to impact. Those who see every inefficiency as an opportunity to build something better. If you’re looking to work where ideas become systems — and where those systems move economies, the supply chain is your space.
How are you looking to carry forward the message of your achievement in your future work?
This award imbues a sense of much greater responsibility in us. It pushes us to deepen our work in launching API-led freight bookings that bring more visibility to every shipment, expanding our EV fleet to reduce real-world emissions, and helping partners hit their ESG goals through smarter planning. We’re turning ideas into action. But beyond the tech, it’s about trust. Trust between shippers and carriers. Between regulators and operators. Between what’s promised and what’s delivered. That’s the foundation we’re building on.
