The inaugural competition will take place as part of the 5th GPCA Responsible Care Conference to support the net-zero transition
GPCA is pleased to announce the launch of its inaugural Carbon Neutrality Cup, which will take place during the 5th GPCA Responsible Care Conference in the Ritz-Carlton, Manama, Bahrain on 5 September 2023.
The competition has been launched with the aim to bridge the gap between the chemical industry and academia by challenging and encouraging senior undergraduates and postgraduate students from STEM fields to explore new ways of supporting the transition to net zero across the downstream value chain. It also provides an opportunity for the next generation to take social action by tackling climate change and contributing to the chemical industry’s revolution in achieving net-zero emissions.
The inaugural competition welcomes participation from senior undergraduates and postgraduate students from STEM fields in the region. Participants are encouraged to share and present their innovative ideas and approaches to support the transition to net-zero across the downstream value chain and get their ideas noticed.
Candidates can enter two categories – the Post graduate student category, seeking novel ideas and projects to reduce the carbon footprint of the chemical and petrochemical industry, and the Undergraduate student category aimed at ideas and projects which demonstrate how energy efficiency play a critical role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and achieving a sustainable future.
Candidates must submit a one page abstract (500-600 words) summarizing their project’s objectives and highlighting key outcomes. Their submissions will be assessed across strict criteria, focused on context and understanding, impact, innovation and feasibility.
The prizes for the winning entries include:
- AED 15,000 for first place and AED 10,000 for second place under the Carbon Footprint Reduction category for post-graduate students
- AED 10,000 for first place and AED 7,000 for second place under the Energy Efficiency category for undergraduate students
The deadline for submission is 7 August 2023. Shortlisted candidates will be announced on 15 August 2023, while winners will be selected on 5 September 2023.
