SABIC, a founding member of GPCA, announced this month that it has joined ‘Together for Sustainability’ (TfS), a procurement-driven global initiative dedicated to improving sustainability practices within chemical companies’ supply chains.

The announcement comes as part of SABIC’s ongoing efforts to drive sustainable solutions through collaboration. In an announcement on its website, SABIC hailed the initiative as an enabler to “raise sustainability standards in procurement in partnership with a network of 40+ other chemical companies.”

Khaled Saleh Al-Kharboush, Vice President of Global Procurement at SABIC said that “joining TfS will enable [SABIC] to reach [its] goals faster, to allocate [its] resources to value-adding activities, and to proactively contribute to enhanced ESG performance in close collaboration with [its] industry peers”.

The initiative affords access to established methodologies and infrastructure to help companies accelerate the implementation of their sustainable procurement strategy and environmental, social and governance (ESG) goals.

It is also crucial in driving collaboration and increasing the industry’s transparency to support further reductions in scope 3 greenhouse emissions. Members of TfS jointly operate global supplier assessments and audit programs through independent experts, eliminating the need for each member to conduct their own assessment programs and greatly reducing the burden on suppliers to participate in numerous different programs.

According to Bertrand Conquéret, President of TfS, SABIC is the first company in the Middle East to join the initiative, which will “strengthen TfS’s global leadership and open up a new region”.

GPCA works closely with its member companies and partners on driving knowledge sharing and collaboration on achieving sustainable supply chains as part of the work of its Supply Chain Committee, its annual Supply Chain Conference and the publication of timely research reports and studies.

GPCA commends SABIC’s commitment to sustainability and looks forward to facilitating greater collaboration among its members to advance emissions reduction across the chemical supply chain.
