GPCA’s founding member, SABIC, held a special ceremony to honor the Saudi science and engineering team for winning 22 awards at the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), which was held in Atlanta, USA, from 7-13 May 2022.

The ceremony highlighted the outstanding national achievement and discussed how the gains from the competition can be invested to unlock the capabilities of youth in the Kingdom.

It was held at the SABIC Academy in the presence of Yousef Al-Benyan, Vice Chairman and CEO, SABIC, the executive leadership, several officials from the Ministry of Education and the King Abdulaziz and his Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba).

As part of the event, SABIC said it aimed to further enhance its strategic partnership with Mawhiba in the area of talent collaboration and encouraging the development of local youth.

In a major milestone for the Kingdom, the Saudi team, accompanied by an official delegation organised by SABIC, scooped 16 major awards and six special awards competing against students from 85 countries.

This brings the Kingdom’s total awards to 104 since its first participation in 2007, including 68 major awards and 36 special ones.

GPCA commends the Saudi team, comprised of young male and female talent, for their outstanding achievement and wishes them success in their future endeavors.

As part of its own commitment to support the development of talent across the region and empower them to pursue a career in the chemical and petrochemical industry, GPCA launched in 2016 the Leaders of Tomorrow (LoT) program.

LoT falls under one of the three pillars of the association which is advocacy by promoting STEM and bridging the gap between academia and the industry.

It is considered as the first official collective step where industry stakeholders collaborate in shaping skills and preparing the future industry leaders with the required skills set.

The initiative consists of a year-round program where GPCA member companies sponsor university students from around the GCC to attend the annual GPCA conferences.
